It’s December! The end of the year is a good time to recap what we’ve done so far with Em-8ER, show current progress, and talk about where we’re going.
First up, a heads up that development slows down during Nov-Dec. Various team members go on break to visit family or take vacation time. You can expect things to pick up after the first week of January, especially with so many characters and models done or near-done and about to go into the engine.
But that doesn’t mean we don’t have new stuff to show! First up is a new texture pass on the Omniframe. Joe tweaked the colors and grime to improve the look:
We’ve also completed the orthographic drawings of the Kaiju that will face the THMPR in combat, and refined the 3D zBrush sculpt. Details like how the body of the Kaiju hinges and changes depending on stance are important to work out at this stage.
Tsi-Hu Beast & Humanoid Forms
The shapeshifting Tsi-Hu can shift between humanoid (ranged) foes and ravenous beast (melee) modes in game. Joe has been streaming regular progress on @Heinesnows base model. Alejandro is also nearly done with the hi-poly sculpt of the humanoid form, which was highly redesigned by Tomasso to better fit with the beast form.
We also finished up the high and low poly human models and began to texture them. The human male was recently rigged and is ready for animation as well.
Version II of the Geesuit
We also tweaked the concept of the Geesuit, and made it more visually interesting for a future update to the models.
Right now we are rigging the humans and Omniframe for the Omniframe movement demo. This will be the Omniframe running and jetting and gliding over our sample terrain. This is going to be a difficult one to get right, so we are taking our time, and expect there will be some iteration. After that we will add guns, basic combat, and the Tsi-Hu aliens. It’s going to be a fun ride. Getting exciting now!
